A Midland family had an unwelcomed house guest Sunday night -- a three-meter snake believed to be a retickulated pyhton.
"I'm a bit creeped out by it," said Rachel Leck.
Rachel and her family had just returned home and were about to watch t.v. in the living room when they spotted the slithery pyhton on their couch.
"The snake was dangling down and I was about to sit down on the couch," said Rachel's ten-year-old son Xavier.
"I looked over about the same time he really yelled there's a snake in the house," said Leck. "I jumped up, grabbed my kid and ran out of the house screaming."
Midland Police and Huronia Animal Control were called to remove the ten-foot-long snake. Police say the python somehow got inside the home and coiled itself up under a shelf in the living room.
The snake was safely captured and removed, but not before it managed to slither out of reach underneath the couch.
"We were able to secure it and now it's confined and being looked at by professionals," said Randy Bidan with animal control.
It’s illegal to have exotic pets as such under the Town of Midland bylaw.
Police believe the snake may be someone's pet and are now trying to contact the owner. Anyone with information is asked to call Midland Police or Huronia Animal Control.
