The man who has been Simcoe-Grey’s MPP since 1990 has been re-elected for another term.

Progressive Conservative Jim Wilson defeated Liberal Lorne Kenney, NDP David Matthews, and Green Party Jesseca Dudun. CTV News called the riding at 9:25 p.m.

Wilson has held a number of positions including: Opposition House Leader since 2011; Critic, Training, Colleges and Universities and for Research and Innovation; First Deputy Chair; Committee of the Whole House; Member, and Deputy Opposition House Leader; Tourism and Health Critic.

Wilson has fought to expand dialysis treatment across the province and end fraud in Ontario's health-card system. In government he was Minister of Health where he oversaw the restructuring of Ontario's hospitals and expanded community-based health services.

Riding Profile

Most of this riding goes around Nottawasaga Bay in Georgian Bay and extends over to Barrie but not Lake Simcoe.

Collingwood has a year-round tourist industry and Wasaga Beach is nearby. There are camp sites, cottages, cabins, motels, and hotels for visitors. It has nearby Blue Mountain Resort for skiing.

The riding also has CFB Borden and the Land Forces Central Training Centre in Meaford.

The riding also includes the Town of New Tecumseth, Essa, Adjala-Tosorontio, Springwater, and Clearview townships in Simcoe County, going around Barrie. It also has that part of the County of Grey comprised of the Town of Blue Mountain. Other centres include: Craigleith, Creemore, Stayner, Adjala-Tosorontio, Beeton, and Tottenham.
