The Town of Innisfil has selected its preferred location for a GO train station.

During a town meeting on Wednesday night, council backed a motion which identified the rail line junction at the 6th Line as their preferred spot for a GO station.

Town staff studied this location and the rail line junction at Belle Aire Beach Road. The study determined the 6th Line location would provide the best access and least amount of congestion.

Metrolinx announced their intent to place a station in Innisfil this past summer.  A second GO train stop will also be built in Newmarket.

Innisfil has been working for years to get a station stop. The town's already approved $2 million to buy up land and another $2.8 million to help Metrolinx build the station.

A timeline for building the station is still unclear.
