Businesses that make their money from winter are gearing up for the upcoming season and trying to convince people to spend their money in our region.
The temperature was nowhere near the freezing mark but that didn’t stop young skiers and snowboarders from taking a run down a mini-mountain outside the Toronto Snow Show on Friday.
Inside the show there were all the latest offerings; from exercise machines to goggles with built-in cameras. Retailers offered deals while resorts from our region focused on getting people out of the city and ready to ride.
“This is a one-stop shop they can order a season pass printed on site and walk away ready to go for the winter,” says Ashley Amis with Blue Mountain Resort.
Malcom Kerr says he is willing to get in his car to spend time on the slopes.
“Anywhere we can drive to, day trips in Ontario or New York and overnights to Vermont.”
Resorts are all working together at the Toronto Snow Show to promote alpine sports because they all want the same thing and that’s to get people outside this winter and more than 3,000 jobs in our region depend on it.
Horseshoe Resort is promoting a new terrain park, while Mount St. Louis Moonstone is getting the word out about night skiing this year. Sarah Huter is hoping the resorts efforts pay off.
“We really hope that this launch of night skiing will bring good things to Barrie, Orillia and Midland and all of the surrounding businesses.”
The snow show continues here at the International Centre in Mississauga until Sunday evening.
