Several fire departments responded to a large fire that engulfed several farm buildings in Springwater Friday.
The homeowners called emergency crews when the fire broke out at the barn on Old Second Road just before noon Friday.
According to the Springwater fire department, the blaze had spread to three additional buildings before crews were able to contain the blaze.
Fire officials said the buildings were being used for storage.
The strong wind gusts from the south east expedited the spread of the fire, but kept the flames away from the home on the property.
“The wind gusts were reaching 36 km/h and provided the right conditions for this fire to spread quickly. Using their training, firefighters were able to divert the fire away from the long standing family homestead and minimize the damage to property,” said Interim Fire Chief Colin Shewell.
Fire departments from Barrie, Clearview, Essa and Tiny also responded and provided mutual aid.
“A special thank you to our mutual aid partners for their assistance in battling this fire; by working together, we were able to contain it and ensure the safety of everyone involved, ” said Interim Deputy Fire Chief Jeff French.
There were no injuries to people or animals.
The cause is under investigation.
