Here are some things to consider before setting off fireworks to celebrate Canada Day in Barrie.
According to Barrie fire, a city bylaw is restrictive on who can use fireworks and where they can be set off:
- Users must be 18 years of age
- Fireworks cannot be used within 300 metres of a hospital, nursing home, school or church
- Fireworks can’t be used within eight metres of a building, tent, camp, shelter or motor vehicle
- Fireworks can’t be used if wind speeds exceed 40 km/h
Officials say misuse of fireworks can be extremely dangerous and recommend leaving usage to professionals.
