Two people from Orillia are facing numerous charges in connection with a house explosion in Barrie in March.
The explosion erupted around 9 p.m. on Collete Crescent on March 13 and caused a fire that engulfed both the garage and attached house.
Police say four people were in the garage, while eight children and two adults were in the house when the explosion happened.
“At the time they were extracting marijuana resin and as the result of the chemical butane being in the garage, an explosion ensued,” says Barrie police Const. Sarah Bamford.
On Tuesday, Barrie Police went to a home in Orillia and arrested and charged a man and a woman in connection with the explosion.
Robert Debenedictis, 36, and Veronica Emberson, 34, both face a number of arson and drug-related charges, including criminal negligence causing bodily harm.
Emberson has been released with a promise to appear in court in July. Debenedictis is expected to appear in court in Barrie on Wednesday.
Emberson's lawyer Christopher Piattelli wouldn't comment on the charges, but said her injuries are extensive and she is currently going through rehab.
Debenedictis will be back in bail court on Thursday and the Crown will argue he shouldn't be released.
