Two people face charges as police seek a third individual in connection with the alleged assault of a municipal law enforcement officer.

Provincial police say a group of people, including one individual who has yet to be identified, assaulted the officer shortly after 2 a.m. on Sunday on Fallview Circle in Southfields Village in Caledon.

“No one should face the risk of violence when they go to work,” stated Caledon Mayor Annette Groves.

The officer was taken to the hospital with injuries later determined to be minor.

On Thursday, provincial police say they arrested one suspect and a second suspect was taken into custody on Friday.

Both men are charged with assaulting a peace officer.

Police continue to investigate and encourage anyone with information to contact the authorities.
