Share

Strong winds up to 90 kilometres per hour, hail and heavy rain was expected to storm through parts of Simcoe County Friday evening.

Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning just after 7 p.m., noting meteorologists were tracking a storm capable of producing strong wind gusts, pea to dime sized hail and downpours.

"This severe thunderstorm is located near Devil's Glen Provincial Park, moving east at 40 km/h," the national weather agency stated.

The impacted areas include Barrie and surrounding areas.

"Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles," the weather agency noted in the warning.

The wicked weather should ease in the overnight hours.

Saturday calls for plenty of sunshine with daytime highs around 26C. While temperatures will dip over the weekend, there is no rain in the forecast.
