After 18 months of construction and $60 million in upgrades, the Tanger Outlet Mall officially reopened on Friday.

“Actually quite nice, I’m really impressed with the width of it, it’s easy to get around,” says shopper John Caruso.

The outlet mall is now more than 300,000 square feet with 83 stores. That’s about double the size it was before. The mall now has many big names, including Coach which was a big catch for Tanger.

“I think everybody wanted them to come, we were able to finally land them,” says property manager Jodi Chamberland.

Chamberland says that 2.8 million people shopped at the mall in 2013 and they want to double that this year.

Outlet malls are attractive to shoppers for a number of reasons. For one there are deals to be had and in many cases stores carry older stock at discounted prices.

“I always seek them out when I’m in the states and it’s really great to see them in Canada,” says Siobhan Llewellyn.

The mall will host more grand opening celebration over the weekend.
