Residents in Barrie took it to social media after spotting a heavy police presence in different parts of the city’s west end.

On Saturday morning, Barrie police say they were conducting a criminal investigation in the areas of Essa Road, Ferndale Road and Dunlop Street.

Peter Leon with the Barrie Police stated that this investigation was a follow up to an ongoing criminal investigation.

Officials say the investigation is linked to a number of collisions and as a result, police vehicles were damaged in the process.

As the evening approaches, Barrie police confirmed that there is no longer an active investigation in the following areas.

There is no confirmation on whether a driver was arrested or will be facing charges.

“At present, there is no threat to public safety, and further details will be provided only when the investigation permits," Peter Leon shared with CTV.
