Young female bobcat survives car accident, begins rehabilitation

A young bobcat is on the road to recovery after a devastating car accident left her with severe injuries.

This fuzzy patient is now sanctioned at a mobile vet hospital in Caledon that works hand in hand with the National Wildlife Centre (NWC). Here, she is receiving the care she needs.

Upon her arrival, the team at the centre said she was barely responsive, suffering from severe head trauma, a broken leg, and vision problems.

She was provided IV fluids, medications, and a cast to stabilize her condition.

Thanks to their care, her health has significantly improved. She has since been moved outdoors under the supervision of Hope For Wildlife, where her rehabilitation continues.

“This young bobcat is a fighter, while her journey isn’t over, we’re so proud to be part of her recovery”, one outreach coordinator from the National Wildlife Centre shared in a social media post on Thursday.

The National Wildlife Centre plays a critical role to ensure that animals like this resilient bobcat have a chance to heal and, hopefully, return to the wild.

NWC helps care for animals by connecting sick, injured or orphaned animals to wildlife rehabilitators and responders across Canada. Hence how this little wildcat ended up in the purview of Caledon's mobile vet hospital.

Since the NWC was established in 2014, the centre states on their website that they have cared for more than 5,000 native wild animals, and more than 200 species, including threatened and endangered animals.
