Barrie Police are investigating a death at a home near the downtown.

Police got a call around 5:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon of a fight between residents at 100 John Street in Barrie.

Officials say the fight was between two men and started off as a verbal fight which turned physical leaving a 51-year-old man dead.

Police have arrested a 36-year-old Barrie man and charges are currently pending the results of an autopsy that has been scheduled for Sunday morning.

In the meantime police say there is no concern for public safety.

“The two men were known to each other and we don’t have any other concerns for anyone else in the community,” says Barrie Police Constable Angela Butler.

Barrie Police will be on scene all day Saturday continuing their investigation and talking to witnesses.
