Progressive Conservative Bill Walker has been re-elected in the riding of Bruce Grey – Owen Sound.
CTV News made the call at 9:29 p.m. Walker beat out Liberal candidate Ellen Anderson, NDP candidate Karen Gventer and Green candidate Jenny Parsons.
Walker has been the Critic, Children and Youth Services since Sept. 30, 2013 and member of the committee on Regulations and Private Bills since February 2012. After his 2011 election he served as Deputy Critic, Health (Rural and Northern). He was an Operations Manager for Bruce Power and responsible for asset management, contract negotiations and stakeholder management in the Property Management department.
Riding Profile
The riding is on the north coast of Lake Huron and south shores of Georgian Bay.
With nearly 100,000 residents, it has the city of Owen Sound, Tobermory, Wiarton, Hepworth, Tara, Meaford, Shallow Lake, Durham, and Dundalk, and Egremont and Proton in Grey County.
In Owen Sound, Transcontinental printing with 650 employees is the largest printer in Canada and prints Time. GE Security has 450 workers and its head office is there. Tenneco has up to 400 employees in parts production.
The Niagara Escarpment divides the riding, and it is bordered to the north by Fathom Five National Marine Park. Tourism varies from hiking on the Bruce Trail to many beaches. There are two Indian Reserves: Cape Croker and Saugeen.
