One person was left with signs of hypothermia after an early morning water rescue along Kempenfelt Bay.

Just before 7 a.m. on Friday, police received a call for assistance near 15 Lakeshore Drive in Barrie.

Asst. Deputy Fire Chief Eric McFadden with the Barrie Fire Department said police called the team to the scene, upon arrival, the crew put on their water rescue immersion dry suits and began walking through the water until they got to the individual.

Officials say he was retrieved in waist deep water and later arrested.

Emergency crews remained on the scene until paramedics arrived and transported the man to Royal Victoria Regional Hospital.

It is unclear how the man ended up in the water and what led to his arrest.
