The Ministry of Labour is investigating after a worker was killed Monday morning in Markham after being struck by steel casing.
York Regional Police say emergency crews were called just before 9 a.m., to the Highway 7 and Birchmount Road area.
According to officials at the scene, three workers were installing a gas pipe when the incident occurred.
Police say the pipe slid into a ditch at a site on the side of the road.
The man, who was in his late 50s, was pronounced dead on scene.
It’s not yet clear if the deceased worker had been operating the loader and got out to adjust something, or whether the machine’s operator struck another worker.
Roads in the area remain closed as the investigation continues
