Liberal’s Leona Alleslev wins riding of Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill

The new riding of Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill has gone red.

CTV News declared Liberal Leona Alleslevthe winner of the riding on Monday night. Alleslevdefeated five other candidates including Conservative Costas Menegakis and the NDP’s Brenda Power.

Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill was previously under the riding of Richmond Hill, before it expanded to accommodate the growing population of the area.

In 2011, Menegakis secured the riding of Richmond Hill for the Conservatives – taking more than 44 per cent of the vote.

Prior to the 2011 federal election, the riding was a Liberal stronghold under MP Bryon Wilfert, who held the seat for three elections.
