Latest on road work along Bayview Drive in Barrie's south end
The City of Barrie says motorists and businesses in the south end will have to contend with the one-way traffic configuration along a stretch of Bayview Drive for several more months.
According to the City, the contractor has its plan for the winter season in place, which includes continuing southbound-only traffic down the busy road until late spring or early summer.
“Continuing the one-way access will help get the project completed within the expected timeframe,” the City noted.

Bayview Drive is closed to northbound traffic from Big Bay Point Road to Little Avenue.
Businesses along this stretch of Bayview Drive remain open during construction.
The $20 million reconstruction project will widen the road to 3.5 lanes with a continuous two-way left turn lane.
It will also include a sidewalk on the west side of the street, but plans for off-road cycle tracks have since been amended.
“The dedicated off-road cycle tracks could not be fully achieved throughout the corridor due to property, utility, public transit requirements, existing rec centre parking, and conflicting use constraints,” the City noted.
The project is expected to wrap up in 2026.
