The landlord of a building where a fatal fire occurred last year in Parry Sound has been fined.

The landlord was fined $34,300 after being convicted of failing to maintain smoke alarms and failing to provide tenants with a copy of the smoke alarm manufacturer’s instructions.

The charges were laid under the Ontario Fire Code.

The fire broke out at an apartment complex on Parry Sound Road on May 22, 2015. After the flames were extinguished, a body was discovered inside.

An investigation later determined that there had been no working smoke alarms.

One of the tenants was also ticketed $360 for disabling a smoke alarm.
