Investigation launched into fire that caused $2.5M damage at newly-built house

Share

A fire that caused $2.5 million damage at a newly constructed house in Adjala-Tosorontio early Tuesday morning is being investigated as suspicious.

Flames could be seen shooting from the house located in a new subdivision on Marigold Boulevard near County Road 14 and Concession Road 8 around 4:30 a.m.

The fire chief told CTV News the home, while unoccupied, was move-in ready.

The blaze didn’t spread to any neighbouring homes, and officials say the neighbours living next door managed to evacuate safely.

No injuries were reported.

The chief confirmed there have been at least three fires since May in the area, including one on Sept. 30 in another unoccupied new build that caused $2 million damage.

It’s unknown whether the fires are connected. The investigation is ongoing.

Provincial police are appealing to the public for information. They ask anyone who can help with the investigation to contact the OPP or Crime Stoppers.
