SIU invokes mandate after officer-related shooting in Orillia, 1 dead, 1 seriously injured
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked a mandate after an officer-related shooting in Orillia.
The incident happened just before 2 p.m. on Thursday.
Following reports of a complaint, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a residence on Barrie Road.
According to officials, the responding officer was stabbed during the encounter and suffered serious injuries.

The OPP Provincial Constable of Orillia indicated that the officer discharged their firearm and as a result, the person was pronounced dead at the hospital.
OPP released a tweet asking pedestrians and motorists to avoid the area around West Street South at Cochrane Street and Matchedash Street South at Cochrane Street.
Police say the officer remains in hospital in stable condition.
