One person was hospitalized after a fire broke out in a garage and spread to the attached home in Springwater Township.

Officials say crews arrived to find a fully involved fire early Tuesday morning at the residence on Flos Road 4 West.

A firefighter and an Ontario Provincial Police officer were injured while rescuing two dogs from the flames. Both were treated at the scene by paramedics.

“Crews arrived and made an aggressive attack which helped aid in the rescue of the dogs,” noted Deputy Fire Chief Jeff French.

Officials say the individual taken to a local hospital suffered smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. Damage is estimated at $400,000.
