Following a night of freezing temperatures, Environment Canada has called off an extreme cold weather warning.
According to the weather authority, temperatures hit around -35 C with the wind chill on Thursday night and into Friday. John Dunsmore, an Environment Canada weather tracker, says the break in these extreme temperatures can be attributed to a weakened jet stream.
Environment Canada issued the extreme cold weather alert on Wednesday, and expanded it on Thursday for most the province, including Barrie and central Ontario.
However, Dunsmore warns it’s not going to warm up any time soon, as the cold arctic air continues to move south.
