Barrie shelter covers cost of emergency surgery to reunite family with beloved pet
A family has been reunited with their cat, Beans, after the generosity and compassion of staff at Street Cats Rescue who stepped in to cover the cost of the life-saving surgery the family couldn’t afford.
Beans had swallowed almost 12 inches of string, leaving his owners – a mother and her two children – heartbroken when they were forced to give him up due to the $2,500 surgery cost.

A recent successful fundraising campaign left the Barrie cat shelter with a little extra money, which staff decided to use to cover the cost of the tabby’s surgery, which meant the world to the family ... and to those at the shelter.
“We were all crying about it. Everybody I've told is just crying tears of happiness,” said Carol Snow, Street Cats Rescue director. “It makes us feel really good, and we know it feels really good for them for Christmas.”
Street Cats Rescue is a no-kill facility staffed by volunteers on Truman Road in Barrie. It offers temporary shelter to kittens and cats that have been abused, neglected and forgotten.
