Crews remain on scene at a house fire in Orangeville this afternoon.
Orangeville Fire Chief Andy McIntosh tells CTV Barrie the house on Starview Crescent was fully engulfed when crews arrived. Crews came in from Orangeville, Mono Mills, Grand Valley and Shelburne the town says.
Firefighters went on a defensive attack against the fire, which started at about 1:45 p.m. today, to keep nearby homes safe and to allow residents to evacuate, McIntosh says. Damage is expected to exceed $500,000.
McIntosh says the fire started in the garage, but investigators are still trying to figure out how it started. The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office is being called in.
No one was home at the time, and no one was hurt in the fire.
It was under control as of 4 p.m., but not fully extinguished.
Starview Crescent has been closed to traffic so water tankers can get to the area.
