A new helicopter will soon be flying high above Georgian Bay.
The Canadian Coast Guard is adding a Bell 412 helicopter to its fleet in Parry Sound. It will replace the aging Bell 212 helicopter that is currently in service.
The Ministry of Fisheries and Oceans made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon.
"The Government of Canada has committed to enhancing marine safety and environmental response through the Oceans Protection Plan. These helicopters support that plan, playing a vital role in ensuring the safe movement of ships on Canada's oceans and waterways," says Minister Dominic LeBlanc.
Helicopters are used by the coast guard to ensure safe marine traffic, icebreaking reconnaissance, as well as science and fisheries enforcement.
