Events around our region marked Father’s Day today.

In the Bracebridge area, there’s a bit of a tradition for dads – and it has wheels.

For John Dunn, the Bracebridge Father's Day Car Show is like an automotive education for his girls.

“I'm showing them all the old cars I used to have when I was young,” he says.

And they say he’s good at fixing cars – and a few other things too.

“Dad's special because he's really good at bikes, so when mine breaks down he can fix it,” says daughter Mackenzie.

With more than 100 classics on display today, car lovers could get their “fix" – and Bill Ballentine's car was at one time a real fixer-upper.

“It's a 1929 Woody Station Wagon,” he says. “They're very rare. This is a Canadian car that has survived and is very rare because it is made of wood.”

Over at the Frenchs’ car collection, both father and son are guilty of fussing over their cars: a 1931 Chevy sedan and 1952 Chevy hardtop.

“Cars have always been a bond for fathers and sons because the first thing you want to do is drive as soon as you turn 16,” says Michael French. “You get your driver’s licence. I think it's a family thing.”

But not all the kids just love the classic cars. Some love classic rock too. And musician Bob Gasson says if he asked his daughter to choose between classic cars and classic music, “music might win out with my daughter for sure.”

Meanwhile, golf courses around the area were packed as dads hit the links. And in Newmarket, carvings, clothing, and even some homemade treats were on sale as families flocked to the 17th Fairy Lake Artisan's Festival.
