Police say a man who was arrested on Monday in connection with a series of thefts and later released was back in custody hours later.

Officers arrested the 41-year-old man of no fixed address shortly before 1 a.m. on Monday after a report about an attempted theft from the Circle K at Dunlop Street West and Anne Street.

Police say the suspect was charged with failing to comply with court orders and was linked to five previous thefts that happened this month at the same store.

He was released following a virtual bail hearing.

Around 10:40 Monday night, police on patrol at the convenience store stopped the same man as he walked through the retail gas station parking lot.

They say he was found with stolen alcohol and food items and was in breach of his probation order.

He was arrested again and charged.

The accused was held in custody for the night and will have a second bail hearing today.
