The Barrie Soccer Club says it will investigate two players who were red-carded during a match Saturday, June 1, 2013.

In a statement issued on its website, referring to the two players, the club says it “will be launching an internal investigation regarding the incident in the Barrie – Kitchener match during the Spiritfest tournament" held in Barrie over the weekend.

Two players received red cards during the game and were ejected.

The club says results of the investigation into the incident will be published once completed. The club won’t confirm how long the investigation will take.

The club also says reports of an off-pitch incident were exaggerated.

On Saturday, Barrie police issued a media release saying officers responded to the soccer fields on Lillian Crescent regarding "a large fight between parents at a youth soccer game."

In the release, Barrie police said "an argument developed between parents from a Kitchener team and parents from a Barrie team. During the argument it is alleged that one of the parents uttered racial slurs towards another parent causing the argument to escalate to the point that up to 30 people became involved. Police attended and the situation calmed down."

Police added: "The Barrie Soccer Club will be speaking to some of those involved."

The club has refused to give CTV Barrie an on-camera interview regarding any reported off-pitch confrontation.
