A power outage on Saturday night left over a thousand Barrie homes in the dark.

The power went out just before 7 p.m., affecting around 1,772 homes and businesses, according to Alectra.

The outage ran from Duckworth Street to Vincent Street and Lakeside Terrace to Grove Street East, shared the energy solutions team.

Over a dozen people on social media claimed they saw their lights flicker and some even say they witnessed bright blue flashes appear in the sky.

Some services were fully impacted, Barrie Police put out a tweet on Saturday evening stating that, “Georgian College campus is completely impacted by this outage, Alectra is on scene and working to resolve the issue.”

Utility crews were dispatched to find a bright solution and power was restored shortly around 9 p.m.

The cause of the power outage is unclear.
