Trustees for the Simcoe County District School Board have decided to put Barrie Central and Prince of Wales schools on the market.
In a vote of 4-3 on Wednesday night, trustees voted in favour of selling both properties.
Prince of Wales, which was the county’s oldest public school, closed two and a half years ago. Barrie Central, which is the county’s oldest high school, is expected to close in 2016.
Both properties could go on the market as early as 2015 but the sale of Barrie Central wouldn’t be finalized until the high school closes in 2016.
The potential revenue from both properties could be $6 million.
Trustees will have to make a final decision about putting the properties on the market before the newly elected trustees take over at the end of November.
