The man accused in a killing at a Barrie rooming house last year was back in court on Tuesday.
The suspect, 29-year-old Terrence Barrett, appeared before a Barrie court to find out which charges he will be facing.
The judge ruled that Barrett will face a second-degree murder charge and assault causing bodily harm. Barrett sat quietly in the prisoner’s box as he listened to the judge make her decision.
It was in February 2015 when 55-year-old Milan Segota was killed at his rooming house in Barrie. He suffered multiple stab wounds.
Barrett was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and assault with a weapon.
The Crown wanted him to stand trial on a more serious charge of first-degree murder and wanted the assault charge upgraded. The judge agreed with the latter.
The judge's decision was based on evidence heard during a preliminary hearing. That evidence is currently protected under a publication ban.
Barrett is expected to be back in a Barrie court on Aug. 25.
