13 shots fired at Cookstown home, investigation underway

Police are investigating after the home of a family of four was shot 13 times early Tuesday morning in a Cookstown neighbourhood.

South Simcoe police say early reports suggest a small, dark-coloured SUV may have been involved in the shooting on Mumberson Street around 4:30 a.m.

While the family was home at the time, police confirmed no injuries were reported.

Officers canvassing the area obtained video from several homes with surveillance cameras, but police say it's too early to tell how many suspects were involved and what the motive could be.

Police urge residents to remain vigilant and be aware of their surroundings.

“We are very interested to get to the bottom of this. It is a large number of rounds fired,” said South Simcoe Police Staff Sgt. Dave Phillips. “There is a significant concern that somebody could have been injured or killed here.”

The investigation is ongoing with police appealing for any information from the public.
