A woman has been found dead inside a home on James Bay Junction Road in Seguin Township – south of Parry Sound – after a fire early Sunday morning, OPP say.
Two other residents of the home - a man and a woman - were sent to hospital with life-threatening injuries following the fire, which started at about 5:40 a.m. today.
Investigators from the Ontario Fire Marshal’s (OFM) office were sifting through debris inside the home Sunday afternoon. They are looking for the cause of a fire that left the senior dead.
Damage to the home was limited to the central part of the house and that’s where the investigation was focused today. Police have the property taped off and detectives were on the scene helping the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office with the investigation.
Neighbouring residents are related to the victim and aren’t giving too many details about what happened. They say a senior, her daughter, and another man who helped around the house all lived together.
The name of the woman who died isn’t being released until an autopsy is complete, which is expected to take place tomorrow. It's unknown if there was a working smoke alarm in the house or what might have caused the fire.
Police aren’t saying much about the investigation, but are expected to offer more details tomorrow.
It’s the second fire the Seguin Fire Department and Parry Sound Fire Department responded to today. The first, just before 4 a.m., was at a vacant hotel on Oastler Park Drive. There were no injuries reported in that fire. Police aren’t linking the two.
However, the fire marshal is also investigating that fire because the business was vacant and it could be considered suspicious. The middle section of the hotel suffered the most damage.
The hotel hasn't been in use for several years. More information is expected to be released tomorrow as the OFM continues its investigation.
