Orillia’s newest high school is set to open in March, leaving crews a little over a month to give the facility its final touches.

Teachers and members of the media got the chance to tour Orillia Secondary School on Saturday. The facility cost $32 million to build, stands two and a half stories high and contains 45 classrooms.

“Very excited,” says principal Jim Sammon. “We can't wait to get our kids into this building.”

The board will save hundreds of thousands of dollars every year by spending less on hydro, thanks to natural lighting. Officials believe there will even be a savings on heat andair conditioning.

There is still a lot to do on the inside. The school sports a triple gym, a cafeteria and a theatre.

“The variety in different specialty rooms that are in this building will give kids an opportunity not only just to learn inside the classroom, but to explore different extracurricular activities as well,” says teacher Leanne Young.

The school is slated to open on March 21.
