OPP detachments in Simcoe Muskoka kicked off their annual Festive R.I.D.E. campaign for the holiday season along with other detachments across the province.

Officers are reminding the public of robust mandatory alcohol screening laws, vigilant citizens and officers on patrol conducting R.I.D.E. checks to prevent impaired driving.

While R.I.D.E campaigns are conducted year-round, drivers are being reminded that they are conducted more prominently during this time of year.

Southern Georgian Bay OPP reports that they have conducted R.I.D.E. programs at seven different locations so far, stopping more than 102 vehicles to check their drivers for signs of impairment.

Police say one driver from Toronto failed a roadside screen test during a Monday evening R.I.D.E program on Brunelle Side Road in Penetanguishene. The 36-year-old was arrested for impaired driving and was scheduled for a December court date after being released from custody.

Caledon OPP stated via social media that they launched their Festive R.I.D.E. campaign by checking for impaired drivers in the area of Healey Road and Innis Lake Road.

Dufferin OPP and City of Kawartha Lakes OPP also posted about the start of Festive R.I.D.E. season on social media.

Officers remind drivers to make the right choice before getting behind the wheel and to arrive at their destination safely.

The annual Festive R.I.D.E. runs until January.
