A fertilizer spill caused by tanker truck rollover Thursday morning has forced the partial closure of Highway 26 west of Barrie.
It happened shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Highway 26 near County Road 22.
Police say the truck was westbound when the tanker rolled due to a mechanical issue causing the fertilizer it was carrying to pour onto the roadway and surrounding area.
The 27-year-old male driver from Springwater Township was transported with minor injuries.
The truck was carrying a type nitrogen based fertilizer mixed with water and was only a There is no public safety issue with the spill and the material is only hazardous if it comes into direct contact with skin.
Police closed Highway 26 between George Johnston Road and Fralick Road and County Road 29 on County Road 22 to clean up the spill.
OPP has reopened Highway 26 but Horseshoe Valley Rd. between Crossland Rd. and Hwy. 26 remains closed for the police investigation.
