A fire has destroyed a home south of Alliston Saturday morning.
The call came in just after 10:00 a.m. at a home on Train Street, near the 13th Line of New Tecumseth.
The owners weren’t home when the fire started.
“We came home, drove in the driveway and I could see the smoke coming through the roof and called 911,” says Chuck Fernley.
The couple is okay and so are their pets but their home has been destroyed.
The fire ripped through the roof and spread quickly and took firefighters sometime before they were able to get it under control. Now they are trying to figure out how it started.
“The fire appears to be in the centre section of the house. I’m not exactly sure what that is…it appears to be in a living room area,” said New Tecumseth Fire Chief Dan Heydon.
Crews from New Tecumeseth, Alliston and Adjala-Tosorontio were called in and at one point there were 35 firefighters on scene battling the blaze.
Chuck and his wife have lost their house of 15 years and everything inside and don’t know where they’re going to go.
“At this point we have nothing, we haven’t even thought of that. Our biggest concern right now will be getting the puppy a place to stay,” says Fernley.
Neighbours are already stepping in, offering up their homes for the time being.
“Everyone’s willing to help out in any way the can,” says Wendy Topping.
Kind gestures the Fernley’s are thankful for. They say they have insurance and can hopefully rebuild the home they loved so much.
