There’s been a fatal crash tonight along a busy road just north of Barrie.

OPP tell CTV News a snowmobile driver has been killed in a crash along Simcoe County Road 27, just south of Elmvale.

The snowmobile and a vehicle collided at around 6:15 p.m.

The driver is a male, but his age and name haven’t been released yet. OPP Sgt. Peter Leon says the scene is so gruesome that cameras won’t be allowed past a roadblock that’s been set up in the area.

The accident has closed County Road 27 between Horseshoe Valley Road and Flos Road 4.

Accident reconstruction specialists are expected to arrive at the scene later this evening to examine the scene.

Leon says the road is expected to remain closed for several more hours, and possibly into the early morning hours.

We will have more on this story on CTV News at 11 tonight.
