Newmarket councillors are once again looking for a compromise over a proposed and controversial housing development.

Council and local residents don’t want a green space rezoned for the Glenway Estates housing development. A developer wants to put hundreds of homes on the land.

The developer brought its plan to the Ontario Municipal Board, which decided in its first hearing to approve the plan. A second hearing will happen in mid-April.

Monday evening, Newmarket council voted unanimously to explore all options to resolve the dispute before that next OMB hearing.

Coun. Chris Emanuel says he's disappointed step one was lost, but hopes the proposal can be improved before the next phase of the OMB hearing.
