A woman escaped her home with her baby after a fire broke out early Monday afternoon in Alliston.

Fire crews are working to ventilate the home on Previn Court near Bowerman Boulevard after thick smoke filled the house.

Officials say the mother and her infant were checked out for smoke inhalation and cleared of any injuries.

It’s believed the fire may have started in the basement, but that has yet to be confirmed.

At least 10 fire trucks attended the scene after mutual aid was called in to assist.

The family will be staying with relatives for the night while firefighters remain at the scene to ensure the fire doesn't reignite.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway, but officials don't believe it to be suspicious.
