Water main break in Midland causes boil water advisory
An early-morning water main break in east-end Midland has forced the health unit to put a boil water advisory in place.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) issued a boil water advisory for the East Pressure Zone of Midland following a recent significant water main break Monday.
The break occurred at the east end of Midland in an area between Yonge Street and Highway 12, and William and King streets.
While repairs are underway, the advisory remains in effect until laboratory tests confirm the safety of the water.
"It is anticipated that these results will be available in the next one-to-two days," the health unit said in a press release.

The health unit cautions that people most at risk include the elderly, the very young, and people with weakened immune systems.
Midland residents are asked to boil their water before use or, as an alternative, use bottled water or commercially treated water from an approved source.
This also extends to drinking water for pets.
Restaurants, bars, and other food services (excluding facilities that sell pre-packaged food and have been approved to operate by SMDHU) are closed during the boil water advisory.
To prepare water for use, bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute and allow it to cool before:
- drinking
- brushing teeth or rinsing dentures
- preparing food, washing fruits, vegetables, and other food
- preparing infant formula
- making ice, beverages, or other mixes
- washing dishes: wash dishes with soap and water, rinse them and then sanitize them in a separate sink with a capful of bleach mixed with a sink full of clear water.
