Environment Canada is now warning of the potential of a tornado in several areas.

There are tornado warnings for Orillia - Lagoon City - Washago, Orangeville - Grand Valley - Southern Dufferin County, Haliburton - Minden - Southern Haliburton County, Mount Forest - Arthur - Northern Wellington County and Fenelon Falls - Balsam Lake Park - Northern Kawartha Lakes.

At 5 p.m., meteorologists began tracking a dangerous thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado. Storm spotters reported a funnel cloud near Carnarvon and the thunderstorm is moving east. Facebook user Marilou ter Veen posted this video about an hour ago, taken near Orillia.

Environment Canada says this is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation.

Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.

“Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet. Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can. As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris.

“If you hear a roaring sound or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris, or any threatening weather approaching, take shelter immediately.”
