The friend of a missing Keswick area woman is trying to stay optimistic as a search continues for her in Belize.
Police found 52-year-old Francesca Matus’ truck in a sugar cane field on Sunday afternoon about 15 kilometres from the bar where she was last seen.
Matus and her American boyfriend, 36-year-old Drew DeVoursney, were last seen on Tuesday. Matus was supposed to return to Canada the following day.
Her friends say she has homes in both Canada and Belize, where she lives up to six months of the year.
"I can still hear her laughing in my head,” says Jacqueline Logan, Matus’ friend.
Logan says she has tried reaching out to the federal government for help, but so far, no luck.
“Foreign affairs is aware of the situation and are assisting the family,” she says. “In terms of [MP] Peter Van Loan, he said there’s no resources available at his level.”
Logan hopes Matus can be found alive and brought back home.
“She wasn’t in the vehicle which says to me that there’s still a chance that she’s still alive.”
