A 17-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing in Victoria Harbour Wednesday night.
Police they were called to the area of McKenzie Crescent at Victoria Harbour Elementary School just after 9:30 p.m. after reports of a stabbing.
When they arrived they found the a 16-year-old boy suffering from apparent stab wounds. He was taken to Georgian Bay General Hospital in Midland and was later airlifted by Ornge to a Toronto area hospital. He is listed in stable condition.
Officers arrested the 17-year-old and charged him with attempted murder and aggravated assault. He is in custody and is expected to have a bail hearing in Barrie on Thursday.
The OPP Criminal Investigation Branch continues to investigate.
The names of the teens involved will not be released as they are protected by the provisions of Youth Criminal Justice Act.
School sends home note
On Thursday, Victoria Harbour Elementary School sent this note home to parents:
Dear Victoria Harbour ES parents/guardians,
I am writing to notify you about an incident which took place last evening, after school hours, in our school area. The incident was not related to our school and there is no threat to public safety.
Southern Georgian Bay OPP is conducting an investigation.
As always, student safety is our first priority. I’d like to thank our staff, students, parents and school community for their cooperation and understanding this morning at the school as police continued their investigation.
