Suspect abandons stolen Uber in Collingwood after threatening driver: OPP

Provincial police are investigating a New Year’s Day theft involving an Uber in Wasaga Beach.

According to police, an individual got into an Uber on Mosley Street near Pizza Pizza around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday and threatened the driver after a short interaction.

Police say the suspect left the Uber driver at the side of the road and drove off in the vehicle.

No injuries were reported, and no weapons were seen.

A search for the suspect took police to the Collingwood area where the allegedly stolen vehicle was found abandoned in the area of 8th and Walnut Streets.

Despite efforts to locate the suspect, police say no arrests were made.

“The recovered stolen vehicle has been processed for evidence by the OPP Forensic Identification Services,” police noted.

The OPP’s crime unit has taken over the investigation.

“No further details, including suspect descriptors will be released at this time,” OPP stated in a release.
