A new study has listed Barrie in the top 10 best Canadian cities to live in if you’re a woman.
The study released on Wednesday by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives listed Barrie as the eighth best place to be a woman in Canada. Victoria, B.C. claimed the top sport, while Kitchener-Waterloo took the last.
"The reality is Canada has a gender gap. When it comes to pay, jobs, and safety, men and women still don't get equal treatment in Canada," said researcher Kate McInturff in the report. "We need to take stock of the gaps so we can close them.”
Titled “The Best and Worst Places to Be a Woman in Canada 2015”, the study ranks Canada’s 25 largest metropolitan areas. The ranking is based on how men and woman fare in economic security, leadership, health, personal security, and education.
"Looking at which city fares the worst and best in terms of gender equality isn't about winning the cup, it's about identifying what works in one community and bringing it home to another—so that every city in Canada is a good place to be a woman."
The report says women in Victoria are the closest to making the same level of employment as men. Regions that rely on mostly male industries were at the bottom of the list.
