Snow squall warnings for most of central Ontario with snow accumulations up to 35 centimetres likely.

Environment Canada warns of very poor to no visibility on the roads with heavy, blowing snow at times.

The wintry weather is expected to hit the area Wednesday night and last through to Friday night.

The national weather agency warns of gusty winds up to 70 km/h at times.

The agency says a cold front is moving through the region, bringing with it snow squalls from Georgian Bay.

“The highest snowfall amounts may occur in the Collingwood to Meaford areas,” Environment Canada states.

Travel will be difficult at times given the hazardous weather event.

Provincial police urge motorists to avoid hitting the roads unless absolutely necessary, and to always pack an emergency kit, have a full tank of gas, and a fully charged cell phone.

Emergencies can be reported by calling 911, but contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 with all non-emergent situations.
