Residents and visitors to Muskoka got a surprise today as embattled Toronto Mayor Rob Ford was seen in the area.

Reports came in that Ford was seen in Bracebridge outside the Bank of Montreal earlier this afternoon. He was seen in Gravenhurst a short time later at a dry cleaner.

Erin Strength works at Fabricare in Gravenhurst and says Ford was her shop for about ten minutes to drop some items off. Strength says he was a delight and took time to take a photo with staff.

Carman Ribeiro who works at Marj's Homestyle Café in Bracebridge and took a picture of Ford while he posed with construction workers outside the plaza. She says Ford was posing in pictures with people.

Coun. Doug Ford told CP24 that Ford is indeed in an in-patient facility but speculated that he could leave the premises on a supervised pass. The mayor’s lawyer, Dennis Morris, said Ford isn’t restricted at the facility.

“He is an in-patient. I don't think any individual is restricted to a facility 24/7. There are no gates or bars,” he said.

Ford said he would check himself into rehab late last month for what he has said is a problem with alcohol. That same night, two different newspapers came out with reports of drug and alcohol use by the mayor.

Rob Cooper is in Muskoka and will have more tonight at 6.
