A park was named in honour of Andrew Mixemong in Midland on Saturday afternoon.

Mixemong was an elder in the community who was killed during an altercation in 2012.

On Saturday the Town of Midland named a green space Neezhoday Park – which means two hearts in Ojibwe. Neezhoday was also Mixemong’s native name.

Officials say this was a great way to recognize what he meant to the community.

Jessy Herlichka and Paul McClung have been charged with second degree murder in the incident.
